Meet your GLAM Instructors!
Yufei (Lia) He
My name is Yufei (Lia) He and I am a junior in High School. I have always loved STEM subjects and I am an advocate for equality. Outside of school, I have attended the New York Math Circle program for two consecutive years. Besides math, I love reading, painting, and playing the cello, as well as fencing and Judo.
My name is Rocio and I am a senior in High School. I have been helping students with math for a few years now. I like helping them find alternate ways to solve problems. It’s always great to see them understand a concept. I genuinely enjoy volunteering and helping others out. I spend a couple hours a week outside of school doing community service. Besides math, I enjoy learning different languages and reading in English and Spanish.
My name is Maya Khadem. What I love about math is the satisfaction of knowing that there is always an answer. No matter how hard the equation, there is always an answer you know is possible to find, the fun of it is just figuring out how to find it. In my free time, I love to draw, paint, and listen to music. I've been sketching ever since I was little, and I love to create works digitally all the time. I'm not really athletic, so art is where I find I can express myself. I'm super excited for GLAM because I love working with kids and I really hope I can be of help to some younger girls.
My name is Maddy Klass and I am a junior in High School. Like many girls, my confidence in my math skills wavered during my middle school years, but as I entered ninth grade geometry, I began to trust my own abilities. I'm very passionate about environmental science and biology, so I love applying math to different fields of science to explain patterns and phenomenon around us. When I am not in school, I play first base on my school's varsity softball team, write articles for different publications, and create podcasts.
Catherina (Kat) Krespi
My name is Catherine (Kat) Krespi, and I am 16 years old and a junior in High School. I am a competitive tennis player, and I have been on my school's varsity tennis team since freshmen year. I like math because it gives me a challenge like no other, and it forces me to think outside the box. During my free time, I enjoy watching movies, playing tennis, and spending time with my friends and family. A fun fact about me is that I am fluent in two languages: Russian and English.
My name is Natalie Pizer and I am a junior in High School. I have always hated that girls' voices are silenced in math classes that are dominated by boys. In my free time, I play varsity softball and varsity volleyball and I also play travel volleyball. A fun fact about me is that I am obsessed with pineapples! I am super excited to join the GLAM team and encourage girls to follow their passion in STEM.
My name is Fabiha Rafrafin and I am 16 years old. My favorite aspect of math is its problem-solving character, and the fact that every question can be seen as a puzzle. In my free time I like to read fantasy novels and watch crime TV shows. A fun fact about me is that I was born in Bangladesh and moved to New York when I was 4 years old. I am excited to be a part of GLAM and work with girls who share an interest in mathematics and help them further develop their skills.
My name is Siyang Wei, and I am a sophomore in High School. I’m Chinese, and I moved to America three years ago. As a child of a math teacher, math is always the subject I spend most of my time on. I like how math class can be different every day, and how useful math is. People can’t construct buildings without math and numbers and people can’t schedule their time without math computation. In my opinion, unlike other subjects, math can make people’s life easier. Doing more math is making our life easier. I enjoy doing math problems, and I think I should use what I know to help other kids to build their interests in math. Besides school work, I also like to dance, sing, and do plays and musicals with my friends. I’m excited to meet different students who also like math and learn from them!
